Things you may not have known

I am heading off to Ohio at the end of March for a week and I have some friends over there that I havent seen for AGES!

For those of you I know now, you may not know much about the fun I had as an exchange student for a year back when I was 18!  I thought I would do a bit of a 'did you know' about my time there:

did you know...
  • I lived in a town called Washington Court House - one of its claims to fame back then was that it had the most fast food restuarants per square mile than any other town in Ohio
  • I went to High School and was a senior taking several classes including American History, Debate, Calculas, Parenting Plus and Home Development!!!! Oh along with your usual IT and English classes
  • I was the only student to receive an A+ for one of our english semesters, little did they know I studied the exact same book the previous year (Macbeth)!!!
  • I was also a member of the Symphonic Choir, we were second in the county or something like that!
  • I was on the Reserve Volleyball team (one down from Varsity)even though I had never played VB in my life before
  • I managed to have two boyfriends - Curtis - a younger one (get me) and Terry Gruber - voted 'Most Independent' in our senior school poll. He was coool and my first proper boyfriend really (no match on Richard now of course)
  • I lived in a lovely house with a great host family - they treated me like their own and I got on really well with them
  • I went on holiday to N.Carolina for a couple of weeks whilst there - it was awesome
  • A group of us used to hang around in a friends garage - it was decked out as another room.  We used to think the guy was soo cool and mysterious.  He is still cool of course and is now married with a child to my good friend Sonia
  • I made loads of great friends of which I see when I can - hence the trip in March
  • I appeared in the local paper a few times for various things - + the host dad was publisher of the local paper
  • Was the best experience a young un could ask for :)

The sign that Christmas is well and truly over

The mess that is our DIY nightmare!

A month or so ago I wrote a blog about the fact that we were updating our bathroom, we had to re-tile, re-floor and paint the room.  PLUS add a new shower and taps.  The bathroom I am pleased to say is soooo close to being finished, I hope to have the pics on my space very soon!

Not content with starting one room, in our wisdom (well mainly Richard's), we have also started work on the hallway and landing...and the dining room...and the living room.  Forget finishing one room and starting the next...try starting all at the same time and living in a mess for the next 6 months.

I have taken some photos as evidence as to why it willl be impossible for me to have any visitors until it is finished.

At some point I will post the new pics when it has finally been finished.

Christmas Time

I had a great Christmas break, everything was really relaxed and the week off was so totally needed.

Highlights being:

  • Seeing my nephew opening the scarf I knit him and exclaiming how COOL it was!
  • Realising that I am still a big kid at heart when I woke up at 4.30am on Christmas morning.  Alas, Father Christmas had not been at that point and I had to will myslef back to sleep
  • Christmas morning, Rich and I did really well with all the lovely pressies we opened.  I especially loved my 'Paint my own Eggcup' set!
  • Eating a fab Christmas dinner of a Goose stuffed with a Chicken stuffed with a Pheasant - it was delish and I broke my 'no meat' rule throughout the Christmas holidays.
  • Pitching up at my mums on Christmas night and receiving the loveliest, softest cashmere jumper and the handbag that was on my Christmas list
  • Baking a Clemetine cake - the baking bit was fun, the eating bit not so (it was a little bitter )
  • Playing loads of Prince of Persia Two Thrones - its v.addictive
  • Spending NYE at Richard's brothers house - it was a really nice to way to see in 2006
  • Spending NYD at my Aunt and Uncles house with the rest of the Merry, Mallison, Ward clan
  • My Aunt announcing that she is going to be a grandparent and then us all looking at the wrong the cousin )

I hope you all had a great Christmas and New year too.
