6月11日 Peebles Scotland - Mini BreakI really havent updated this blog properly for a while and a few things have occurred in my absence on my space.
I have been on another holiday since my american trip, this time to Scotland. Originally Rich was heading up to Peebles with a couple of his friends to ride the trails in Glentress Forest. They had booked a week in a cottage and were going to just ride throughout the day. I thought it would be a nice idea to join them for some of it, not to cycle but for the evenings and just to have a break away somewhere new (I had never stayed in Scotland other than for work). So my friend Karen and I decided to book a few days up there, we were going to do some hiking/walking whilst the guys were cycling and then meet up in the evenings for drinks etc. Seeing as Rich had already got accommodation sorted out and was driving up there, we went ahead and booked a little B&B and some flights into Edinburgh.
Sorted...the flights were confirmed the B&B we booked was a bargain and it was only a couple of weeks til we all headed off. And then...disaster! 1 week before the holiday Rich goes out on his bike and breaks his collarbone!!! It was on a jump that he missed and although he managed to take his bike back to the car, pack it in the back and drive home, he was in total agony. I drove him to FP hospital and after about 3 hours in the A&E it was confirmed that he had broken his collarbone and that he would have to wear a sling for 6 weeks!
It was awful and I didnt know what to do, I had booked flights which were non-refundable and although I would have been happy to forgo the cost, I couldnt really ask my friend to do the same. So I checked with Rich and seeing as I was only going for 3 days, he was fine to manage without me for that short period.
The weekend arrived and we flew up to Edinburgh and then caught a bus out to Peebles and the weather was FAB!!! Straight away we booked into our B&B (which was perfect) and head out on the lookout for a nice pub with a garden. Scotland really must not get the good weather that often (apologies for the completely general sweeping statement) as we could only find one pub with said pub garden. So we made that our home for the next few hours. A few bottles of wine later (is it bad that the barman even commented on the number of bottles of wine consumed?) we met up with Richard's cycle friends for a few more drinks and some dreaded karaoke. We had arrive in Peebles at around 4pm and hadnt eaten since about 12pm so come midnight we were both v.drunk and quite peckish. Ian (one of the cycle guys) chose this really awful looking sausage wrapped in something from the local fish and chip shop so we popped in there as well for some chips. At this point Karen decided it would be an opportune time to try out her Scottish accent..it was...erm...cultural??!!
We got back to our B&B safe and sound and then went to bed.
The next morning, we both felt rather tired and a little unsavoury but the B&B breakfast went some way to making us feel better. The weather again was glorious so we head out on our hike (which we decided should just be a gentle meander along the river) Slowly but surely we walked and walked and walked, taking in a castle along the way and a good few fields. About 6 miles on we decided to try and catch a bus to the nearest main town as it was heading towards lunch time and we were both parched. We walked along the road until finally a bus came along so we managed to flag it down and hop on. GOOD NOTE, they dont seem to mind you jumping on a bus wherever you were along their route! 20 min bus ride later we ended up in a lovely sleepy little village where we ate a picnic style lunch by the river. After a couple of hours we decided to head back to Peebles. The bus back required a stop and changeover so we really had come quite a way outside of Peebles. That evening we were in bed at about 10pm...we like to think it was because we worked so hard throughout the day but I think it honestly had more to do with the night before!
It's Karen's 30th bday this year so as a surprise I booked us both into Stobo Castle Spa which was about 9 miles outside of Peebles. We got up on the Friday and went to the Spa, it was FAB! We spent the whole day in our robes whilst using all of the spa facilities along with a facial and a massage...it was just what we needed.
That night was to be our last night in Peebles so we hit the town again and met up with Richard's cycle friends for the last time, again a great night but I was the one to feel really awful the next morning. I couldnt even muster up the energy to head down for the B&B breakfast.
We then caught a bus back to Edinburgh and spent a beautiful and sunny day wondering around the city. We did a bit of shopping Harvey Nics and a few of the other places along Princes Street. We then hopped back to the airport and caught our flight home.
For the short time we were there the weather couldnt have been nicer and we both had an excellent time. Check out my photo album for some pics. 6月9日 World Cup HumourA little World Cup humour.
Ronaldinho goes into the changing room to find all his team mates looking a bit glum. - Whats up? he asked. - Well we're having trouble getting motivated for this game. We know it's important but it's only England. They're rubbish and we cant be bothered. - Ronaldinho looks at them and says "Well I reckon I can beat them by myself You lads go and have a pint. - So Ronaldinho goes out to play England by himself and the rest of the Brazilian team go down the pub. - After a few pints they wonder how the game is going and ask the landlord to put the teletext on. A huge cheer goes up when the screen reads "Brazil 1 England 0" Ronaldinho scored after 10 minutes. He's beating England by himself. - Anyway a few pints later the game is forgotten until someone says it must be full time by now lets see how he got on. So they put on the teletext again - Result from stadium Brazil 1 England 1 -Lampard scored in 89th minute. - They cant believe it he single handedly got a draw against England. - They rushed back to the stadium to congratulate Ronaldinho. They find him sitting in the dressing room with his head in his hands. - He refuses to look at them. "I've let you all down" - Don't be daft, you got a draw against England and even the goal was not until the very end.
No, no I let you all down. I got sent off after 12 minutes.
It'll NEVER happen like that..........will it?? |
